We are excited to announce that Our City of Colours will be hosting a Special General Meeting on February 22, 2015 at 3:00pm @ Roundhouse Community Centre (Room B). This SGM will be solely focused on approving a restructuring proposal that the board approved and endorsed last month.
Over the past year, we crafted a strategic plan encapsulating our main goals and priorities. Our posters have made a significant impact in the last 3 years and we are eager to embark on new awareness campaigns this year. We would also love to continue to host engaging events to provide a space to share experiences and stories. In addition, we would like to begin to address the lack of research regarding LGBTQ people of colour. Lastly, we wish to expand our online presence to include more resources and provide more ways for people to have their voices heard.
In order to achieve all of this, we have recognized that our board needs to be restructured to become more efficient and focused on our goals. Last month, the board officially approved a restructuring proposal that will bring about important changes to the organization.
The key points of the proposals are:
- New job descriptions for each position on the board, including Directors-at-Large responsible for one committee/portfolio each
- Decreasing the size of the board from 15 to 9
- Holding elections for each position at the Annual General Meeting this year
The goal of this proposal is to ensure that the Board is more focused and accountable to the strategic plan. Each goal will be matched with a Director-at-Large to ensure that it gets met by the organization. A smaller board also creates a closer knit group that can make quicker decisions. The Board strongly believes that this proposal is an important and necessary step in the growth of Our City of Colours to an even bigger presence in our communities. We would love to hear your opinion and vote on our proposal at our Special General Meeting on February 22.
If you have paid your membership fee within the last year, you will be able to vote. If you signed up as a member before but haven’t renewed your membership in the past year, then you can renew your membership at the SGM to be eligible to vote. Otherwise, new members are welcome to vote as long as they sign up before February 1, 2015.

We look forward to seeing you at our Special General Meeting on February 22!
